Patrick Kennedy is a Design Director with a strong focus on operations and team leadership. He has more than two decades of experience in digital technology and human-centred design.

Patrick is a seasoned design leader with experience across a variety of sectors and organisations. He orchestrates the smooth operation of teams, ensuring the right people, capabilities and tools are in the right place at the right time to facilitate successful outcomes. He is a problem solver who is dedicated to removing roadblocks and delivering effective solutions that meet the needs of the team.

Designit

2019 - 2022, Sydney

 

Designit is a global strategic design agency, part of the Wipro group. I held a leadership role in the Australian studio, leading and growing a team of 13+ multidisciplinary designers in Sydney and Melbourne. I had broad accountability for the management of the design consulting team, as well as the studio/business.

As a team-builder and studio manager, I was responsible for people leadership (up to 7 direct reports), recruitment, training and development, DesOps, resource management, team meetings and rituals, processes and procedures. I also directed most internal projects and initiatives.

As a Design Director, I was accountable for project delivery and business development, and the clients I worked closely with included Qantas, ANZ, Victorian Dept of Health, nbn, Woodside, WaterNSW, IAG and Western Sydney University.

Commonwealth Bank

2013 - 2018, Sydney

 

Commonwealth Bank of Australia (CBA) is Australia’s largest bank, with a formidable reputation for excellence in digital customer experience. I held a number of roles as part of the user experience and design team, one of the largest such teams in the country.

As an Executive Manager, Digital Experience, I was responsible for UX across two CommBank portfolios, Wealth (B2C) and Business (B2B) with a combined annual delivery budget of ~$24M. I led a team of 17 specialists embedded in these two portfolios, on the successful execution of over 25 major projects across 12 scrums.

As the Senior Manager, UXD Research, I led and grew a high-performing team of nine design researchers who successfully employed a variety of qualitative and quantitative research methods on projects from across the bank. I led and mentored researchers who worked on major digital successes, including:

  • CommBank App, Australia’s #1 mobile banking app, multiple award winner

  • NetBank, Australia’s #1 online banking website

  • CommBank Tablet App, design award winner

  • CommBank Property App, award winner

  • CommBank Youth App

Prior to moving into predominantly leadership roles, I held a number of roles as a UX design and research practitioner. More details are available on request.

I started my career in software engineering, during which I was introduced to the burgeoning World Wide Web and I began focussing on web development. After several years I transitioned into Information Architecture and what we now call UX.

I’m a proud generalist, drawing on knowledge and expertise gained from across different domains and industries. I’m most comfortable acting as the link between executives and teams on the ground, translating strategy into action and then directing and coaching talented practitioners to create great things.
